I wish Nintendo just made the Wii U pro controller backwards compatible right out of the box. I'd take it even if motion controls, nfc reader, and the screen shot button were necessary omissions. Despite it's weird design, it's got a bit of a classic look to it. And it'd be nice to be able to use them instead of having them just sit around. Also, while yes hardware details differ that has nothing to do with bluetooth; the Switch and WiiU Pro controllers both use bluetooth to communicate with the console and the only difference in this respect is the software ignoring one of them. That means that in fact, yes, the Switch is ignoring the older controllers; or, probably more accurately, specifically not ignoring compatible controllers.
